About New Mexico Independent Doctors
New Mexico Independent Doctors (NMID) is a clinically integrated network (CIN) of independent physicians united by one mission: to provide better care for New Mexicans. Our doctors believe that high-quality healthcare begins with strong relationships, local understanding, and professional independence. By collaborating across specialties, NMID physicians share data, align on best practices, and coordinate patient care—without giving up the autonomy that makes independent medicine so personal and effective. Together, we’re building a healthier New Mexico—one where patients receive connected, compassionate, and community-centered care from doctors who live and work right here at home.

What is New Mexico Independent Doctors (NMID)?
NMID is a physician-led clinically integrated network created to support independent medical practices while improving quality, access, and affordability of care for New Mexico patients.
Why was NMID formed?
NMID was formed to preserve independent medical practices while enabling collaboration, shared resources, and value-based care without hospital system control and expense.
Who can join NMID?
NMID is open to independent physician owned and managed practices committed to high-quality, patient-centered care across New Mexico, willing to collaborate with other like-minded practices to provide a new option for health care in New Mexico.
What are the benefits of joining NMID?
Members gain access to shared infrastructure, contracting support, data insights, and collaborative care models while maintaining full clinical and operational independence. Practices can learn from each other, develop strong referral networks and eventually benefit from collective purchasing and negotiations.
Does NMID replace my existing practice or affiliations?
No. NMID complements existing practices and affiliations. Physicians remain independent and retain full control of their practices. If you like your current health plan contract you can keep it, or help us to negotiate value based payments for the care you deliver but are not paid.
How does NMID improve patient care?
NMID improves care through coordination, reduced fragmentation, better access to specialists, and a focus on quality, outcomes, and affordability. We plan to support primary care physicians to develop an accessible primary care network, support surgical practices to keep access to surgical services and streamline referrals to the specialists of the network.
Is NMID affiliated with a hospital system or insurer?
No. NMID is physician-governed and independent of hospital systems and insurance companies. We may contract with hospitals to provide those services when needed and with insurance companies to restructure payments so that we get credit for the quality of care we provide.
What specialties are represented in NMID?
NMID includes a broad range of primary care and specialty physicians across New Mexico, with continued growth planned.
Are there membership requirements or dues?
Membership requirements are based on participation standards and alignment with NMID’s mission. Specific details are provided during the onboarding process.
How does NMID support value-based care?
NMID provides the structure and tools necessary for physicians to participate in value-based models while reducing administrative burden.
